Why Rejecting Resolutions is the Natural Thing to Do

New year, new me?

It would seem more and more people are rejecting this sentiment and if you're not feeling motivated to make changes right now, you are not useless or broken - you're perfectly in tune.

We only have to take a look around to see that nature is slumbering.

It's hibernating, it's conserving energy, it recognises the season of winter is dark, harsh, dangerous even, and it waits. It understands now is not the time for exertion, for growth and evolution. Unlike our man-made calendar which demands that now is the time to commit to improvement regimes.

Research suggests that over 80 per cent of people fail their new year resolution by February. But is it any wonder when we're still in the depths of a period that demands purely survival?

There was a time when the world followed lunar months, before we became a solar society. The moon has a cycle of around 28 days - half of it waxing (getting bigger) from new to full and the other half waning from full back to new.

These phases have rest and recuperation built into them. A solar calendar does not.

After all, where's the profit in allowing people to regulate and replenish? Far better to manipulate the masses into constant states of consumerism and then blame them for perceived personal failures.

There is even a belief that April Fool's Day originated as a way of shaming people who still celebrated a new year at the start of spring. The fools, it would seem, are us for abandoning our alignment with the natural world.

What nature is doing right now (in the depths of winter) is important but gentle work, preparing itself for renewal, making sure it's ready to bloom once again with the arrival of spring.

And we too can do the same.

We can reflect on seasons past. Tend to the grounds - our bodies and minds. Clear space ready for expansion as the energy of the sun increases.

This isn't a conspiracy theory.

It's common sense.

This January I'm collaborating with some wonderful women to offer a number of empowering opportunities that align with the true sense of now.

A winter mindset masterclass called Rest and Reset, plus 6-weeks of workshops called The Craft Series.

Both have been carefully created for empowerment - designed to share insight, perspective and tools that will encourage personal growth and self-confidence.
